Bill Bacon - Rally America

Bill Bacon, an East Coast competitor hailing from Nashua, NH, had a successful West Coast trip to the Olympus and Oregon Trail rallies that propelled him to second place overall in the Rally America National Championship Series! With two more events left in the Championship, Bacon sits only 8 points behind Rockstar Energy Drink driver, Antoine L''Estage and within striking distance of the Championship lead.

Having only competed on the West Coast 4 years ago at Oregon Trail, Bacon''s recent visit netted him a solid 4th place overall finish gaining valuable Championship points at April''s Olympus Rally. The finish was particularly significant considering that this was Bacon''s first Olympus event and he needed to save his car for the Oregon contest 2 ½ weeks later.

After Olympus, the Bacon Motorsport Team worked within a tight schedule reprepping the car on the West Coast before returning to Massachusetts. Thanks to the kindness of a fellow firefighter in Washington State, Bill and his brother Chris were able to quickly adjust their car in a donated work space and leave their truck and trailer between travels.

"After the reprep the car was in better shape than before we arrived!" exclaimed Bill Bacon.

Within days, the Bacon Motorsport Team was racing on the diverse Oregon Trail Rally roads after a short time back home.

The Oregon Trail Rally began at the spectator friendly Portland International Racway for the first 4 stages of the weekend. 5,000 fans packed the Raceway to witness Bill Bacon achieve a fourth overall placement at the end of the night navigating the race course and surrounding gravel access roads. Heading into the weekend''''s Columbia Gorge stages, Bill Bacon and co-driver Peter Watt were in good company against the factory teams of Dave Mirra and Ken Block.

The Saturday and Sunday stages were a diverse array of roads with dry and very dusty conditions. Driver Bill Bacon and Co-driver Peter Watt enjoyed the technical stages on Saturday and thought the flat-out Sunday stages through the prairies were fast and fun.

Bacon held their own on Saturday, but advanced in the standings because of some notable DNFs. Ken Block and Dave Mirra are always favorites to win a rally but both rolled their cars on the same corner on separate stages, thus giving Bill Bacon some breathing room during the competition. But Bacon was not without his challenges when he went a bit too wide around a corner and clipped an embankment. They sustained minor body damage and distorted their rear alignment. Fortunately, the Team made it back to service for repairs and continued the Rally.

The team headed into the fast and fun stages on Sunday trying to keep their second place position. After running the last stages conservatively the team was able to do just that. Driver Bill Bacon and Co-Driver Peter Watt brought the Bacon Motorsport to a 2nd place overall finish. The best finish the team has had in the Rally America Series.

The Bacon Motorsport Team is currently in 2nd place in the Rally American National Championship and look forward to being back home on the east coast for the Susquehannock Trail Rally in Wellsboro Pennsylvania on June 4th & 5th, 2010. We hope to see you there!

The Bacon Motorsport team would like to thank Hawk Brakes, Kaps Transmissions, D-Force Wheels and Veloz Media for their products and service support.
